THE upcoming Fijian Drua clash against the ACT Brumbies this weekend is expected to provide a significant economic boost for Ba Town, says Ba Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dinesh Patel.

After years of limited sporting activity due to the prolonged reconstruction of the 4R Stadium at Govind Park and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the town is preparing for a surge in commercial activity.

Mr Patel said the local business community was eagerly anticipating the influx of visitors.

”This is community in Ba and obviously the residents as well, they’ve been deprived of major sporting events in Ba because the new stadium at Govind Park has taken quite a long while to construct,” he said.

”Now that it’s ready and ready to host sporting events, it will bring a lot of business activity and hype up the economy of Ba in a very positive manner.”

Mr Patel said the Drua fixture was only the beginning of a busier sporting calendar for the district.

“So, the business community of Ba is eagerly looking forward to the business that these events will generate in Ba.

”The good thing is that the people in the main stadium will have numbered seats which will mean a much better way of managing the seating and movement of people in and out of the area.”

Ba Town Council chief executive officer Manjula Devi said hosting a Super Rugby Pacific match would stimulate the economy through increased spending on transport, food, and accommodation.

Ms Devi said the event would benefit local hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants as fans gathered to celebrate.

”Local businesses can sell team merchandise, snacks, drinks, and souvenirs to supporters attending the game,” she said.

The 4R Stadium at Govind Park features a large grandstand and modern changing rooms designed to improve the match experience.

Members of the public can expect security checks at the gates, organised seating in the upgraded grandstands and access to restrooms and food stalls.

”Hosting a major Super Rugby Pacific match helps promote Ba nationally and internationally.

“This exposure can attract future visitors and events, supporting long-term economic growth.

”Security officers, police, and event staff will be present to guide the public, manage crowds, and maintain order.”

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will meet the Brumbies at Govind Park this Saturday at 3.30pm in round five of the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition.
