Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players Inia Tabuavou and Peni Matawalu have joined Lautoka Rugby Union as they gear up for the 2025 Skipper Cup competition.
The pair are the only Drua players to link up with the Lautoka squad so far this year and are expected to bring their Super Rugby Pacific experience and leadership to the side.
Lautoka Rugby head coach Peniona Ranitu confirmed that both Tabuavou and Matawalu are actively involved in off-season training and have adapted well to the squad environment.
“They are the only two Drua players that have joined us for off-season training.
“We just wrapped up our Lautoka franchise competition where Duavata Forces were crowned champions. Now we are concluding our off-season phase and transitioning into pre-season preparation,” Ranitu said.
Ranitu revealed that Lautoka’s extended squad currently includes 55 players, and the focus now is on fine-tuning combinations and improving overall fitness before the competition kicks off in September.
“With experienced campaigners like Matawalu and Tabuavou in the mix, Lautoka will be hoping for a strong start when the Skipper Cup season kicks off later this year.
