NEW Swire Shipping Fijian Drua recruit Issak Fines-Leleiwasa says joining the Drua feels like the right move at the right time for him and his family as he looks ahead to an exciting Shop & Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

The former Wallabies and Western Force halfback had watched the Drua from afar over the past few years and was drawn by the passion, enjoyment and strong connection between the team and its supporters.

“I just think it was the right time for me and my family to make this decision. Looking from afar for the last couple of years, you can see the enjoyment and the joy it brings the fans and the players here.

“It’s such a big part of their lifestyle over here. I think that excites me and to be a part of that, I think it’ll be something special,” he said.

The talented back is especially looking forward to experiencing Drua home games from the other side, having previously played against the team.

“I guess the home games, you know. I’ve sort of played against them a few times and it’s been an amazing crowd. To be a part of it on the other side would be awesome.

“The fan base over here is the best in the world,” he added.

Fines-Leleiwasa said the welcome he has received since joining the squad has made the transition easier and has added to his excitement for the season ahead.

“I guess the group and the team have already been so welcoming. I’m just keen to give back where I can and enjoy the ride here.

“It’s going to be a cool season and I’m keen to work hard and share what I can. Just enjoy the season because I think it’s going to be a good one.”

With a mix of experienced players and emerging young talent, Fines-Leleiwasa believes the Drua squad has plenty to be excited about.

“I think we’ve got a great squad here and some good experience and some good young talent. It’s exciting,” he said.
