The two-day Home Coming concert in Nadi last weekend was incident free.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu said there were no major incident reported, aside from misbehaviour that were alcohol-related.

He said strict security measures inside and around the Prince Charles Park in Nadi were implemented to intercept any attempts to transport or sell drugs.

“We didn’t make any drug arrests, our K9 unit was there but we only made arrests on liquor-related offences, people misbehaving outside Prince Charles Park and there were a few assault cases,” he said.

“Our narcotics team from Suva were in Nadi, I have just received our report from that event, and it was incident free. We had done some arrests the week prior to that and we anticipated that people would be coming in for the transportation of drugs and also trying to sell it during that event, but we had intercepted two kilos of cocaine from Martintar, and also other meth arrests also detected prior to the event.”

He said rowdy concert goers were removed from the venue.

“People were thrown outside because of their misbehaviour especially when they were drunk but the security at the event was tight not only with the Fiji Police but also the hired security for the event.

“We also checked two vehicles in Sigatoka that was suspected in transporting meth during the weekend, but it was intercepted.

“We are going to continue the fight on drugs, the increasing number of meth transportation and the cultivation of marijuana as well as just the general transportation of drugs in our country.”
