The West Coast Drifters will take on Police in the final of the Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union (NRFU) competition.

The Drifters defeated Portsmouth Kelland Brothers 26-10 in the first semi-final while Police demolished a young Flick Vatuwaqa side 42-13 in the second semi-final.

NRFU president Paula Biu thanked all the teams that participated this year, saying the competition would not have been successful as it is without the clubs.

“I want to thank all the players from the different clubs within our union for the successful turnout this year,” said Biu.

“It was a long season for all the teams as there were 12 round-robin matches. We are anticipating an exciting final next week as we will witness a new champion in our NRFU competition as the powerhouses of our weekly competitions bowed out in the quarter-finals.”

Biu said they were planning to increase the number of participating teams to 15, however, this would depend on ground availability and other logistical aspects.

“We have 12 teams right across the three categories and talks of expansion will depend on the availability of a playing field.

“For the teams in the competition this year, it is manageable to conduct matches as all games could be played on one ground, but if we increase the number to 15 teams, we will have to accommodate more games so we would have to look for an alternative ground to play on.

“We are planning to keep the number as it is but if we are to increase the teams, then we would only accommodate 15 teams in the near future.”
