The Fiji Young Kulas’ hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA under-17 Women’s World Cup were shattered in a 6-0 defeat to New Caledonia in the semifinal decider in Samoa yesterday.

Needing just a draw to progress to the semifinals after a 4-0 loss to Samoa, Fiji was unable to withstand the pressure from New Caledonia, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Despite a valiant effort in the second half, Fiji’s defense struggled to contain their opponents, who scored three more goals to secure a convincing 6-0 victory.

With the loss, Fiji will now compete in the fifth and sixth place playoffs, missing out on a chance to qualify for the World Cup.

The finalists of the OFC U16 Women’s Championship will earn a ticket to the 2026 FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in Morocco.
