It’s a proud moment for Josua Kerevi as he will represent the Japan men’s 7s team at his first Olympic Games in Paris.

Hailing from Veiseisei in Vuda, Kerevi is not only on the brink of achieving his dream of participating in the Olympics but also hopes to play alongside his fellow Fijian brothers.

Reflecting on his rugby journey, Kerevi recalls his early days playing 7s and touch rugby at Veiuto Primary School and representing Natabua High School.

A twist of fate led him to Japan where he received a university scholarship for rugby.

Over the past 11 years he has played for various clubs in Japan and now can don the Japanese jersey at this year’s Paris Olympics.

Kerevi acknowledges feeling blessed and fortunate to have the chance to participate in the Olympics and represent his second home.

“Representing Japan in the Olympics is a dream come true for me. I feel blessed to have this opportunity. I will do my best for my second home,” said Kerevi.

Although primarily a player of 15s rugby for a team called Toyota Shokki Shuttles, Kerevi is happy for the opportunity to showcase his skills in the 7s format.

“It’s been a challenge switching from 15s to 7s rugby, but I’m happy to have made the transition.

“I’m looking forward to playing against my fellow Fijians in the tournament, it will be a great experience to compete against my home country.”

Meanwhile, Japan is in pool A alongside New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa.
