Former Vodafone Cup champion Saru Dragons is upbeat about its chances of featuring in the final of the Fiji National Rugby League’s 2020 Vodafone Cup competition.

The side is anticipating a tough encounter against Police Sharks in the second preliminary final at Prince Charles Park in Nadi tomorrow.

After a year-long hiatus, the side has been the surprise package in the local rugby league circles and has expressed confidence in lifting the prestigious trophy when the competition concludes on November 28.

The Dragons will start the match as outright favourites despite playing away from home.

Team manager Seremaia Koroi said preparations had been stepped-up with an aim of a positive result.

“The boys are in camp,” he said.

“They are focused on the task that awaits them because we will be playing a champion side.

“We respect all the teams that we play against and it reflects on our preparations.

“They are the only eastern team to feature on Saturday and they will come out firing because they would be representing all the eastern teams.

“Morale in camp is high and the boys can’t wait to get on the field of play.

“We have been trying to set a standard for all the teams participating in the Vodafone Cup and it is great to see that the boys are responding positively to the game plans laid down by the coaching panel despite not featuring in the competition last year. The game comes naturally to the boys and we are confident of a positive result.

“The whole community is behind the team and we thank them for the support.”

Koroi said the management would be rolling with the same 20 that overcame Sabeto Roosters 20-14 in a dramatic fashion during its quarter-final match last week.

Meanwhile, Police Sharks would feature 11 former Ravoravo Rabbitohs players who were instrumental in bringing glory to the vanua o Erenavula for the past two seasons.

The Netava Rarokoliwa-captained side will battle Police Sharks at 2pm.
