The Water Authority of Fiji has announced the appointment of Dr Amit Chanan as its new chief executive officer.
In a statement this afternoon, WAF Board chairperson Bhavesh Kumar says Dr Chanan is a well-known name in the international water industry with a wealth of experience in water management and leading business transformation.
“Our new CEO is a member of the International Water Association’s (IWA) Strategic Council and vice-chair of IWA’s Water Security and Safety Specialist Group. He is also on the Board of WaterLinks Inc, a Philippines-based NGO committed towards capacity building in water utilities in the Asia Pacific,” Mr Kumar said.
He said as such, Dr Chanan was familiar with the challenges Fiji faced from climate change-caused adverse weather conditions, especially during cyclone season, which greatly affected water supply.
Dr Chanan is an Executive Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
In a statement from WAF, the new CEO said he looked forward to joining the team and continuing ongoing improvements to provide essential services to all Fijians.
Dr Chanan will take up office on March 28.
