There is absolutely no place for religious intolerance in this country, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Prof Biman Prasad.

He made the comments while speaking at the Ram Naumi celebrations at Samabula Primary School.

“The history of the Ramayana and the teachings of Lord Ram are a history of our people,” he said.

“When our forefathers landed in Fiji under the indenture system, they saw their own struggles in Lord Ram’s exile. It gave them strength and humility—and those values live on in us today.”

He praised the students and staff members of Samabula Primary for being a shining example of multicultural harmony.

“When I look at you children holding hands, celebrating Ram Naumi together, I know that you will do the same for Diwali, Christmas, and Eid,” he said.

“This school is a microcosm of what Fiji ought to be.”

“Let me say this very clearly: there is absolutely no place for religious intolerance in this country,” he said.

“Anyone, even a small minority, who attempts to break that unity will not have a place in this society.”
