A remarkable achievement by Fiji’s two lone athlete scooping two gold medals at the Pacific Bodybuilding Championships held in Tahiti, French Polynesia, from October 2-5.
Robert Purcell and Baszil Cleary, both competing internationally for the very first time were accompanied by team official Elizabeth Maki.
Baszil initiated Fiji’s golden performance with a dominant performance on stage, winning gold in his Classic Physique category and securing the prestigious Overall Classic Physique Gold Title.
His flawless presentation, composure, and balance impressed the judges and audiences alike, establishing him as one of the standout competitors of the event.
Purcell continued the momentum, taking gold in his bodybuilding category and finishing 2nd overall.
His achievement has been accredited to the dedication and discipline he has invested into his craft.
His accomplishment has also set a new benchmark for local and regional competitors in the sport.
Outside the stage Fiji’s team official, Maki was also hard at work, successfully completing the Judging Skills seminar which was held alongside the championship.
With her certification, Maki is now a certified judge under the South Pacific Bodybuilding Federation.
Her certification marks a proud milestone for Fiji’s growing representation at the administrative and leadership levels of the sport.
Team Fiji has also dedicated the win in memory of the late Jack Yanuyanudrua, fondly remembered as “Superman”.
His passion and dedication to the sports continued to inspire athletes and officials across Fiji, with the team carrying his legacy proudly throughout the competition.
Looking ahead, the Fiji Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation has announced key dates for its upcoming calendar.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for November 1, 2025, followed by the much-anticipated Mr Fiji competition on November 29, 2025.
Venues for both events will be confirmedby the Fiji Bodybuilding Federation in due course.
