Prominent Nadi lawyer and community leader Dorsami Naidu has officially joined the Unity Fiji political party, setting aside earlier plans to form a separate political movement.
Mr. Naidu said his decision was driven by a firm belief that Fiji’s future must be built on unity rather than political fragmentation.
“Upon deep reflection, I have decided that creating another political party would only serve to further splinter the voices and efforts of our people,” Mr. Naidu said.
“My ultimate goal is to see our people united, working together for the betterment of our nation. By joining Unity Fiji, I can contribute to a party whose very name and ethos reflect this crucial vision.”
A lifelong legal practitioner, Mr. Naidu said he is strongly committed to upholding law and order and protecting the Constitution.
He stressed that any reforms must be carried out through transparent and democratic processes that reflect the will of all citizens, not just a vocal minority. He also emphasised the importance of keeping religion separate from politics.
He said the growing methamphetamine problem, which he linked to a high incidence of HIV cases, requires an urgent and comprehensive national response.
On the economy, Mr. Naidu highlighted the need for sustainable job creation and competitive wages to stem the ongoing brain drain.
“We have so much potential in agriculture, marine and forestry, which our people can be skilled to operate,” he said.
Mr. Naidu also called for major reforms to the healthcare system, saying no Fijian should be forced to publicly fundraise for essential overseas medical treatment.
“Unity Fiji is committed to ridding corruption and nepotism at all levels of government. We must also urgently address the problems faced by our young people and the lack of confidence they feel in their future here at home,” Mr. Naidu said.
He added that joining Unity Fiji provides the platform needed to address these pressing national issues with focus and resolve, united under a common vision for the country.
