BOWLS Fiji has acquired the services of Australian Robbie Dobbins to help the national side in the preparations for the Asia Pacific Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand in November.
Dobbins had his first session with the national squad members at the Westin Bowling Greens on Denarau Island in Nadi last weekend.
His trip has been funded by the Fiji Sports Commission.
Dobbins is an experienced player and has been the assistant coach of Australia.
He has also coached Scotland and Malaysia.
Fiji men’s team manager Curtis Mar said they were glad to have Dobbins on board.
Mar said the players needed to finetune their skills.
“We are glad to have an expat like Robbie to help the players,” he said.
“Robbie comes in with a lot of experience and the players will be able to learn a lot from him.”
The Asia Pacific Championship is an important event and serves as the qualifiers for the 2016 World Bowls Championship.
Dobbins was inducted in the Bowls Australia Hall of Fame in 2013.
