AUSTRALIA-based former Fiji Bati prop Iowane Divavesi helped Dee Cee’s Nadera Panthers claim a spot in the Fiji National Rugby League Nasinu zone pre-season grand final on Saturday.
Divavesi, who is in Fiji for a break, inspired his hometown club Panthers to a 22-8 win over Makoi Bulldogs in the semi-final at the Fiji National University’s Nasinu campus ground.
He scored one of the four tries by the Panthers.
“Divavesi was leading from the front and has still got the touch,” Nasinu zone co-ordinator Tevita Korosaya said.
“He spearheaded the Panthers campaign.”
Sam Kurikitoga, Rupeni Korosaya and utility Asaeli Saravaki also scored for the Panthers. Etuate Qionimacawa was successful with three conversions.
Centre John Merry scored two tries for the Bulldogs.
Panthers coach Vula Dakuitoga was happy with the win.
“My plan was to use our forwards as a battering ram because of their size and to keep it tight,” the former Fiji Bati said.
In the other semi-final, Pacific Energy Kinoya Sea Eagles beat Puma Davuilevu Knights 24 – 7.
Leone Sawa, Sitiveni Cakaudrove, Aninisto Komai and Richard Fiu touched down for the Sea Eagles while fullback Inoke Buadromo kicked four conversions.
The Knights’ lone try was scored by Waisale Ratudina.
