THE people of the tikina o Ono in Kadavu, came together on Saturday to celebrate their cultural identity and launch a new pathway towards community development.
Hosted by the Ono Kadavu Development Committee the Siga kei Ono 2026 was held at Nehru Primary School in Toorak, Suva under the theme “Cagivou ni Yaubula kei Ono” or “A New Transformation of Ono’s Resources”.
The one-day event brought together families, friends, supporters and development partners to strengthen unity while highlighting the district’s rich cultural heritage.
The program began with a traditional ceremony before the official opening by the Tui Vabea. Representatives from the seven villages in the district then took part in cultural performances, youth activities, community fellowship and fundraising efforts.
A major highlight of the event was the soli, where each village had to raise $10,000 to support future development projects across the district.
The committee said the event marked the beginning of a long-term vision aligned with the Ono Development Plan.
The event also included community networking, speeches from traditional and community leaders, and the announcement of fundraising outcomes before the closing ceremony.
Siga kei Ono is expected to become an annual event, serving as a platform to preserve the district’s identity, strengthen partnerships and support the district’s social and economic development goals.
