GEOGRAPHICAL isolation did not stop the Navosa under 14 girls Kaji rugby team from appearing at the Vodafone National Kaji Rugby Competition, which began yesterday.
The team is comprised of various schools from the interior of Navosa and had won their matches against Cakaudrove 14-0 and Ra 21-14 yesterday.
Serupepeli Nawalu, the team coach, says his side had only one week to put together a formidable team to represent the district in the three day tournament.
Speaking on their location being so distant from other schools in the district and urban areas, he mentioned this as one of the many challenges they faced.
“The schools are so far from one another in the upper, lower and middle valleys of Navosa and as we proceeded, our finances were also bearing the heavy cost, as well as some schools that pulled out,” Nawalu shared.
Nawalu revealed their trip to Suva also meant finally setting foot in the capital for the first time.
As they revelled in the sights and scenes of Suva, Nawalu reiterated they were there to display their skills and talent and was grateful for the results achieved so far as they aimed to end their time in the competition on a high note.
“They are here to show what they are capable of through their talents and from the games we have won today, we extend our greatest thanks,” he said.
He thanked the families, friends and supporters of the team for their unwavering support as well.
