Almost 80 students from various age groups are attending an eight- day character-building camp organised by the Fiji Sevashram Sangha in Suva.

The camp is led by Swami Sanyuktanand, who manages the ashram and oversees a dedicated team of between 20 and 25 volunteers responsible for the daily supervision and welfare of the students.

“Children are like flowers that need to be protected and guided by the parents for them to bloom beautifully,” Swarmi Sanyuktanand said.

He said the camp, from January 4-11, plays a vital role in modern society, where busy lifestyles often limit the time parents can spend guiding their children.

“Each day follows a structured program designed to balance physical fitness, spiritual development, and moral education. Children participate in activities such as aarti and bhajans, followed by yoga, and freehand exercises.

“Through discipline and routine, children learn responsibility, respect and self-control,” he said.

Students Pranav Kumar, 16, and Ansh Maharaj, 17, said the camp helps them reduce excessive social media use and focus more on other holistic activities.

The swami said teachers frequently encourage parents to enrol students, noting participants return to school more disciplined and trustworthy.

The camp is supported through community donations and corporate sponsors, including Sports World, which provides sporting equipment and prizes.
