Individual errors and discipline issues saw Rewa football succumb to a 2-4 loss to AS Tiga Sport in their opening OFC Men’s Champions League match at the Solomon Islands.
A disappointed head coach Rodicks Singh said they have now made things difficult for themselves with tough matches pending against AS Pirae and Auckland City.
“It’s not the result we wanted we had a lot of individual errors and discipline issues. We have to quickly go around and really prepare well of the next game,” Singh said during the post-match interview.
Despite a strong start, Rewa conceded a penalty in the 14th minute when Tiga Sport’s Gérald Waia was brought down by Rewa defender Leon Kofana inside the box.
Mickaël Partodikromo slotted home from the penalty spot in the 14th minute.
Things took a turn for the worse for the Fijian side when Kavaia Rawaqa copped a red card in the 28th minute for striking the face of Tiga Sport midfielder Pierre Iewane.
Down to 10 men and a goal, luck seemed to be on their side when two minutes later Epeli Valevou levelled the scores at 1-all.
That didn’t last long when Waia put his side to a 2-1 advantage at the break following a defensive blunder by the Fijian side.
Gutacene Wadra put his New Caledonian side up by two goals and Jythrim Upa put them out of sight six minutes later with their fourth.
Rewa kept fighting and were rewarded with a goal to John Orobulu in the 72nd minute. Singh’s men will face Tahiti’s AS Pirae in their next pool match on Wednesday at 1pm.
