The HFC Bank Stadium was buzzing with energy yesterday as Dilkusha Methodist High School (DMHS) held its annual inter-house athletics competition, showcasing fierce competition and impressive talent across track and field events.

Principal Satyendra Singh gave a rundown of the action, highlighting the strong turnout and competitive spirit.

“There is fierce competition among the four houses, and it’s too early to say who will top the medal tally, but it’s clear the houses are neck and neck,” he said.

Singh also noted that Yaka House, the reigning champions for over five years, are determined to hold on to their title this year.

DMHS has a solid track record in athletics, especially at the Fiji Finals.

Their last gold medal came in 2019, and the school is hopeful of making a strong impact again this year.

“We have some promising athletes, and after today’s events, we’ll identify who to groom for the NNN zone and the Coca-Cola Games,” Singh explained.

“We expect to send around 10 to 15 athletes to represent us.”

The school’s strength lies in a variety of events including high jumps, sprints, and long jumps.

Singh praised the school’s holistic approach, saying, “Our students are not just excelling in academics but also in sports like athletics, rugby, hockey, and netball.”

Singh also called on the school’s alumni and supporters to rally behind the athletes.

“We encourage old scholars, parents, and guardians to come out in numbers and support Dalhousie Methodist High School.

Our students display great discipline and sportsmanship both on and off the field.”

With strong community support and talented athletes, DMHS is gearing up for a competitive season ahead, aiming to add more medals to their proud legacy at the Fiji Finals.
