The Methodist Church will celebrate it’s 60th year of independence since moving away from the Australasia Methodist Church based in Australia.
The church president Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou said the event will be held in August to commemorate the 1964 achievement by the church.
Describing the past six decades of the church’s journey in Fiji and Rotuma, Rev Turagavou said God has been faithful in seeing them through the years.
“We have been and will be the ambassadors of Christ and will speak the truth as we need to remain neutral all the time.”
The church said that in July 1964 the church became an autonomous church after 129 years of being a mission under the Wesley and Methodists mission in the UK then to the Methodist Church in Australasia based in Australia.
