Details have emerged on how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) lured a Russian man residing in Hong Kong to Fiji and arrested him here on charges of smuggling and money laundering.
The high-level investigation was related to the supply of micro displays to Russia from Hong Kong.
The micro displays went sent to the Central Research Institute Cyclone in Russia, a manufacturer of weapons electronics.
Details made public today reveals the FBI managed to lure Maxim Marchenko to Fiji to set a deal and was arrested here and taken back to the USA.
“The American partners (FBI Agents) offered to meet in a third country and transfer micro displays from hand to hand,” states court documents made public.
Maxim Marchenko has a picture of himself on the flight from Hong Kong to Fiji dated September 14.
Marchenko checked the customs regulations in Fiji.
” On September 17, Marchenko met with the undercover FBI agent and was arrested in Fiji and brought to the United States on the same day.
He was jailed for three years in prison for his role in procuring dual-use, military grade micro-displays for Russian end users.
