The People’s Alliance deputy party leader Manoa Kamikamica has stepped down from his position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday confirmed this, saying he had accepted Mr Kamikamica’s decision.

“I received a communication from honourable Manoa Kamikamica informing me of his decision to step down from Cabinet and from his position as Deputy Prime Minister,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Honourable Kamikamica will remain a Member of Parliament and will focus on clearing his name in relation to the charges laid against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. I will be overseeing his portfolio responsibilities for the foreseeable future.”

People’s Alliance party president Ratu Josefa Dimuri has yet to comment on whether Mr Kamikamica will remain as deputy party leader. However, party general secretary Sila Balawa said, “I’ll leave that to the PMC (party management committee)”.

Mr Kamikamica told The Fiji Times he had remained focused on official duties overseas, which concluded yesterday. He recently completed an official mission with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome before travelling to Sydney for the Australia-Fiji Business Council meeting. He confirmed he left Fiji on October 12, 2025, and said details of his case could be verified through the court registry.

Several youth members of the party’s campaign efforts ahead in 2022 have expressed continued support for Mr Kamikamica, sharing messages of encouragement on social media.

FICAC acting commissioner Lavi Rokoika told The Fiji Times the agency would issue a statement after the first call today.
