Dengue fever outbreak in Fiji has resulted in eight deaths since January 2025, according to a statement by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu.
He stated this in Parliament today.
Ratu Atonio detailed the toll of the outbreak, which has affected thousands across the nation.
From January 1 to June 15, 2025, Fiji recorded 10,969 dengue cases, with the Western Division reporting the highest at 4,860 cases, followed by the Central Division with 2,868, the Northern Division with 2,867, and the Eastern Division with 274.
Of the eight fatalities, five occurred in the Western Division and three in the Northern Division, with no deaths reported in the Central or Eastern Divisions.
Hospital admissions totaled 2,334, with 1,164 in the Western Division, 455 in the Central Division, 655 in the Northern Division, and 60 in the Eastern Division.
As of June 15, 2025, active cases have dropped to 562, with 147 in the Western Division, 141 in the Central Division, 198 in the Northern Division, and 5 in the Eastern Division.
