THE Children’s Ward at Labasa Hospital has been out of operation for over a year, this was confirmed by the Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa.
Mr Ravunawa said the ward been under undergoing extensive renovations.
“The delays were primarily due to necessary electrical upgrades,” he said,
In response to queries from this newspaper, he said, patients have been temporarily relocated to the TB Ward, with overflow being accommodated in other parts of the hospital.
“This is to ensure continued care for our paediatric patients.”
Asked about when the renovation work would be completed, he said, the ward should be ready for use by March, with confirmation of completion from both the contractor and the Asset Management Unit.
“I can assure you that we are committed to completing the renovations as soon as possible for the benefit of our children.”
He said the remaining renovations are progressing after the Energy Fiji Ltd had approved the recommencement of electrical works.
