Ba Rugby Union director Filimoni Delasau has praised the efforts of his young team despite their 35-13 loss to Suva on Saturday.
“We thank God for the good weather and a good day on Saturday which allowed both Ba and Suva to battle it out,” Delasau said.
The match was especially significant for the Ba rugby community, as Suva returned to play in Ba after more than 30 years.
“I vividly remember when I was a little boy, watching Suva play here in Ba. Big names like Tomasi Lovo and forwards like Mosese Taga and Naivilawasa those are memories I’ll never forget,” he recalled.
The former Flying Fijians winger said it was heartening to witness the large crowd that turned up at the redeveloped Four R Stadium to watch the match, describing it as a blessing.
“It’s amazing to see the number of fans that turned up. I thank God for His provision. It was a good game.”
While Suva showed their strength as seasoned champions, Delasau remained proud of Ba’s performance.
“This is only our second year in the Skipper Cup, and Suva has been in the competition for more than 50 years and played in the Farebrother Trophy.
“Most of our players were making their debut. We believe this is just the beginning, and we are proud of our boys,” he added.
He confirmed the team would regroup today to reflect and work on their weaknesses with the coaching team.
