Delasau: One of the best

FORMER Flying Fijians winger Vilimoni Delasau has rated the national squad for the Rugby World Cup as the best ever to leave our shores.

Delasau who played for Fiji at the RWC in 2003 and 2007, was at the Nadi International Airport yesterday morning to farewell the team.

The Sorokoba villager who retired from international rugby in 2012 said being in the toughest pool was a motivating factor.

He said England should be ready to brace themselves for fiery encounter.

“I believe it is the best team ever to be leaving the shores to play overseas,” Delasau said.

“I have been following the team since the northern hemisphere tour last year. I wish I could be part of the team but age has caught up with me.”

Delasau said Fiji would match England in the forwards.

“The scrums and the line-outs are better now,” he said.

“The boys have been winning the ball and the tight five are way better than what we used to have.

“I’m not down grading the boys during our time, but just to see how these boys play, holding the scrums and winning the line-outs is what makes this team better.

“We can beat England. We can compete with them in the forwards on their home ground.

“England will have to brace themselves for the firepower that will be coming from the Pacific Islands.”
