Delana acknowledged at 2016 Paralympic Games

Update: 4:15PM ASSISTANT Minister for Youth and Sports, Iliesa Delana, officiated in three medal ceremonies at the Rio Olympic Stadium over the weekend.

The Paralympic gold medallist had the opportunity to congratulate medallists of the men’s T42 high jump – the same event in which he won gold at the 2012 London Paralympic Games, becoming Fiji’s first ever gold medallist at the Paralympic Games.

A Government statement said the winners acknowledged the champion from the London Games for the benchmark he set in 2012.

Mr Delana was amazed at their performance particularly Mariyappan Thangavelu, the 2016 winner from India, who achieved the second highest height ever in the world with a jump of 1.89m, short of the 1.96m world record and beating Delana’s London mark of 1.74m.

He also officiated in the medal ceremonies for the men’s 100m and men’s discus throw.
