A new ship for Goundar Shipping, purchased in February, has completed its four-and-a-half-month preparation period and is now ready for service.
The MV Daya is named after George Goundar’s late mother.
Mr Goundar said it took the company four and a half months to get it ready.
“A lot of modifications have been done to the vessel,” he said.
“The modification we did upstairs for the passengers is more comfort, more room. And the restaurant facilities and the accommodation up top is more advanced than what we used to have.”
Mr Goundar expressed hope that these enhancements would be appreciated by passengers.
The vessel boasts a capacity of 800 passengers and 100 light vehicles, with additional space for 40 trucks and will operate the Savusavu, Taveuni and Kadavu routes.
