FORMER Fiji 7s player and captain Tevita Daugunu is back in the local rugby 7s fold.

The former Wardens player was part of the BLK Lavidi Brothers team at the RC Manubhai 7s tournament that came to an end yesterday.

Daugunu and the Lavidi team fell short in the final to his former side in the final at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

The tournament marked his return to rugby sevens after plying his trade overseas in the abbreviated code.

“I’ve been playing 15s rugby in Canada for the Eastman Warriors Rugby Club. I just got back on Friday and its great to be back in the sevens environment, in this heat, and into the physicality of local sevens rugby,” he shared.

The 32-year-old, who was part of the Fiji 7s team that won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, is fighting for his spot in the Lavidi side that will feature in next month’s Coral Coast 7s.

“Lavidi is considered one of the big local 7s team now because of the number of tournaments we have won so expectations is always high.

“The next task is the Coral Coast 7s and I believe we are one of the four local team included in the tournament. So, we are all on trial in the respective tournaments we’ve played in as every player is fighting for a final spot when the team is selected,” he added.

The stocky forward admitted that getting a spot in the final squad is a tough task because of the number of good players in the team.

Other notable names playing for Lavidi Brothers include former Fiji 7s rep Livai Ikanikoda and former Silktails player Sefanaia Vuli.
