The 2025 Suva Darts Association (SDA) Open League began on Monday with 10 teams and over 100 players competing in one of the country’s top darts competitions.

The league will be held every Monday at 7pm.

Suva Darts Association (SDA) president Edward Roxburgh said the competition is one of their biggest annual events.

“This is annual event which sees the best of the best play against each other. The format is the same as what we expect at the South Pacific Darts Championships, so it is also preparation for the next SPDC in the Cook Islands in 2027,” he said.

The league will follow a round-robin format using an electronic scoring system.

The top four teams will receive trophies and cash prizes, which Roxburgh said are “bigger and better” this year.

Games will be hosted at the Defence Club area at Fiji Club, with two other games expected to be played at United Club, pending confirmation.

Roxburgh said the number of teams remains the same as last year due to limited venue space, but the interest continues to grow.

The competition is open to players aged 18 and over, and while registrations have closed, interested players can still attend Monday games to express interest in joining a club team.

“You will have to show your worth because the league is very competitive,” Roxburgh added.

Strong teams to watch this season include Ono Darts of Suva and Titans of Lami, both known for their consistency in past tournaments.

They will face strong challenges from teams like Friends United, WAN Darts, and the Defence Club teams.

While the teams are mostly the same as previous years, many have new players in their line-ups.

Younger players, however, will have to wait for future competitions due to age restrictions and club rules.

SDA is also planning to launch development programs soon, aimed at growing the sport further in Fiji.
