New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Charlotte Darlow completes her diplomatic term in the country after serving for four years.
Ms Darlow took up the diplomatic role in October 2021.
New Zealand’s senior trade official Greg Andrews will succeed Ms Darlow on this role in January next year.
Addressing members of the Fiji New Zealand Business Council on Thursday this week, she said for anyone who served in Fiji, it was one of the greatest privileges of their professional career.
“It certainly feels that way coming to the end of four years,” Ms Darlow said.
“We are here and so at the end of January, I am being replaced by an amazing human being. So when you come back next in the new year, you will have the privilege of meeting Greg Andrews who I am very proud to say that will be succeeding me in this role.
“He too will be an exceptional advocate I think for the Fiji-New Zealand relationship.
“He has far more trade and economic expertise than I have. He has worked on that before so we’re off to a great start as a team.”
Ms Darlow said she would continue to watch the story of the Fiji-New Zealand relationship from her Aro Valley home in Wellington “because it has a deservedly high ambition and expectation and I wish everybody all the best”.
Ms Darlow has a background in multilateral diplomacy, specialising in environmental, international security, and human rights issues, and has worked in the major multilateral centres of New York, Geneva, Suva, Vienna and Nairobi.
She has also held a range of other roles in New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including with the Pacific Division, Climate Change Division, Environment Division, and Americas Division. She is married to Dr Ben Darlow, and they have two children.
