FIJI’S premier performing arts company VOU Fiji captivated audiences in New York City with a two-day residency at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on April 24 and 25.
Part of the prestigious MetLiveArts season, the performances brought life to the museum’s reopened Arts of Oceania galleries, showcasing Fijian rhythm, song and storytelling.
The residency featured artists Evangeline Kumar and Dikula Vatuwaliwali, alongside New York-based Fijians Zen Waqavonovono and Epeli Rakai.
Artistic director Navi Fong said the showcase marked a major milestone.
“To bring our stories to life within the walls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a monumental milestone for the Fijian arts community,” she said.
“Our mission has always been to share the spirit of the Pacific with the world… to see New York audiences embrace the mana and energy of Fiji has been truly spectacular.”
The international showcase is expected to boost Fiji’s tourism appeal, promoting authentic cultural experiences to global audiences.
