The Sigatoka Town Council will have to spend close to $25,000 to hire a sculpture artist to rebuild its iconic horse monument that was vandalised recently.

Special Administrator of the Sigatoka Town Council, Adish Naidu said two drunkards had climbed the sculpture in a bid to “ride” the art-work.

“In the end, the whole monument collapsed and fell,” he said.

“Witnesses had quickly called the police at 5am and the two drunkards were arrested and are now facing criminal charges.

“We spent about $54,000 to have the sculpture built and will now have to hire the same artist, Shane Bower to fix it.

“We want the people of Sigatoka to take pride in the district and don’t do anything that damages the image of the township  —  the roundabout looks bare now.”

The monument is a 12-foot stallion holding a six-foot tall rugby ball beneath its hoof located near the Melrose Bridge, Sigatoka.
