Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Masivesi Dakuwaqa’s tenure with French club Biarritz ended abruptly after he allegedly bit his teammate Pierre Pagès, leading to the scrum-half needing 20 stitches as a result of the incident.

In a statement released yesterday, the Biarritz club confirmed the termination of the contract of the experienced player, who had previously represented Toulon and Montpellier.

Following an internal inquiry by the club, the accusations against Dakuwaqa were deemed severe enough to warrant his immediate release from the team.

Biarritz had announced at the beginning of the month the commencement of an investigation after a player was reportedly “violently attacked and injured” by a fellow teammate.

The subsequent club statement detailed the occurrence of a serious altercation outside the club’s premises and not associated with any official club activity, involving one of their players.

The heated exchange occurred with a second player trying to defuse the situation before being harmed and necessitating prompt medical attention.

Dakuwaqa was detained by the authorities in connection with the incident.

The club expressed disappointment over the events and vowed to uphold a culture of respect and unity among the players.
