MIKE Friday stands as one of the finest rugby minds in the sevens game, and that is why Yamacia head coach David Dakuitoga says being selected as Friday’s assistant and understudy for the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s is both an honour and a huge learning opportunity.
Dakuitoga said being linked with a coach of Friday’s calibre is something he deeply respects and values.
“It’s a great opportunity and it’s a privilege and an honour to be associated with the name itself, Mike Friday, and talk about the team as another level,” he said.
He said being around top-level players and understanding how they operate is an experience he is grateful for.
“You see the calibre of the players, you see their reputation and what they’ve achieved so far in their journey as a player. It is just so overwhelming to be associated with them.”
Dakuitoga added that the biggest part for him is learning how elite coaches and players apply their craft.
“The major part of it for me is to see how they do their things, how they apply their trade. And with Mike, how he does things, how he’s a little bit different compared to any other coaches out there,” he said.
“He’s one of the best out there in the world and it’s really exciting to be among them.”
