AFTER a five-year break from the sport, Anaseini Dakua will make her long-awaited return to the boxing ring when she takes on Unaisi Nata in the only women’s bout of the FMF Bluewater Boxing Promotion in Nadi tonight.
Dakua, who hails from Vatubalavu, Navosa, last fought in 2019. At that time, she was single and focused solely on her boxing career.
Fast forward to today, she returns not just as a fighter but as a wife and a mother of three children.
“After five years, I’m fighting again. My last bout was in 2019 and I was single, but now I’m married with three children,” Dakua shared.
Her preparation for this fight has been different compared to her earlier days in the sport. Balancing family responsibilities meant training was not as consistent as she would have liked, but she believes her experience will carry her through.
“I didn’t really train well, but I will use my experience,” she said.
Dakua admitted that stepping back into the ring also required support and permission from her family, especially her husband.
“Coming to fight in this bout, I really had to ask permission from my husband. I had to beg him to let me fight,” she revealed.
Despite the challenges, Dakua is excited to showcase her resilience and is calling on fans to come out in numbers to support women in boxing.
“To all supporters, please come and support us,” she urged.
