A heavy rain warning remains in force for the entire Fiji Group, even as Tropical Cyclone Urmil is expected to move out of Fiji’s area of responsibility later this evening.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says Tropical Cyclone Urmil, a Category 2 system, was located about 670 kilometres south of Nadi at midday today and is forecast to exit the Nadi area of responsibility by 6pm.

Despite the system’s expected departure, weather officials warn that active rainbands and strong northwesterly winds associated with the cyclone continue to affect the country.

There will be occasional to periods of rain are expected across most places, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms.

Localised heavy rainfall may still lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
