The Fiji Meteorological Service says a tropical cyclone that is forecasted to form near Vanuatu today (Sunday) does not pose a direct threat to Fiji.
Tropical disturbance TD01F has developed outside the cyclone season and is also the first system to occur during the 2023-2024 Tropical Cyclone (TC) season.
Data released by Fiji Met yesterday showed TD01F would have attained a tropical cyclone Category 1 strength by 6am today (Sunday) and will be a Category 2 system by 6am tomorrow (Monday.)
“However, at this point in time it does not pose any direct threat to the Fiji Group based on the current analysis,” said Fiji Met.
The Fiji Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the development of TD01F over the next few days and update the public of any new developments.
“With the official tropical cyclone season beginning from the 1st of November, members of the public are advised to stay up to date with the latest warnings.”
