The Policing Ministry has teamed up with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a three-year cybersecurity capacity-building training program for Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
The ministry’s cyber security manager, Savenaca Siwatibau, told the Pacific Fiber Conference and training in Nadi recently, the initiative was part of a plan to provide cyber security by design.
“The ministry is aligning itself to be able to support government commitments in this regional framework,” he said.
“This three-year training is solely focused on hands-on practical simulation exercise. That is what is the core of this training.”
“We would like to prepare our officers for any cyber attack, and we want to run them through practical sessions so that they know the tools that are available, the processes and good practices we can use in attending or responding to cyber incidents.”
Mr Siwatibau also noted a focus on policy harmonisation.
“We would like to work with the various government ministries, especially those that are responsible for critical infrastructure, to be able to understand and know the efforts that we are putting in, in terms of cyber security.”
