Cuvu, St Theresa lead Nadroga/Navosa Zone

AFTER day one of competition Cuvu College is in top spot in Coca-Cola Nadroga/Navosa Zone boys competition at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka with seven gold and four silver medals.

In the girls division Saint Theresa College formerly known as Bemana College leads competition with five gold, four silver and three bronze.

Last year’s defending champion, Sigatoka Andrha Sangam College is in second place in the boys medal count with four gold, five silver and three bronze.

NNSSAA president, Ifereimi Turuva said it was a good start with the great weather and turnout was good.

“NNSSAA has embarked on a three-year program to be one of the top five in national school athletics standings which we achieved seven years ago.

“It is achievable given the talent displayed on day one,” said Turuva.

He added Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana who was chief guest had encouraged the young athletes in his speech.

‘We have fifty events left in day two and this will prove to be a battle among the twelve schools especially in the middle and long-distance events,’ commented Turuva.

Sigatoka Methodist College is in third place in the boys division with four gold, four silver and five bronze while Nadroga/Navosa Provincial High School is placed third in the girls medal tally with three gold, three silver and one bronze.

The first event starts at 8am this morning.
