IF you’re still scratching your head over Christmas gifts, check out the Deo sisters at the MSME Festive Market underway at the Civic Centre Car Park in Suva.

The very creative Mahima and Suhani Deo are selling their range of homemade candles and artwork that could pass as ideal gifts or to enhance your interior décor.

“We do 100 percent soy wax, and we also add a little bit of gel wax into our candles as well. They’re all fragrant, all scented,” said elder sister Mahima.

“We’re trying to do some that represent Fiji as an island and we also have some desert candles, some body candles and just some sweet treats for everybody.”

The sisters started their company Alora Fiji in 2021 through which they sell their creations.

“I have a regular job, I help out a family member at his restaurant, but in the meantime I do this, after my dad passed away, so just helping get some extra money for the family, help us take care of our little expenses but this is something that I really enjoy doing,” said Mahima, who has had to return to Fiji from the US when their father passed away.

“Since I was the oldest in the family, I had to return. I feel that Fiji misses out on so many things and with the prices increasing and the extra VAT, etc., that you have to pay on top of these things, I’m trying to get things into Fiji so that it’s a little bit more accessible to all of us,” she added, when asked why decorative candles.
