Twenty-two per cent of the 110 reports on violence against children were domestic related, the Fiji police stated in its crime statistics for March.

Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew said while the overall average crime rate decreased over the past five years, police remained persistent in its community outreach to address specific crimes against women and children that often took place in domestic settings.

“The Western Division recorded 42 reports of crimes against children in March this year compared with 41 for the same period last year,” Mr Chew said.

“Whereas the Northern Division recorded 20 reports compared with 8 for the same period last year.”
