Fiji Women’s Cricket teams would depart our shores today to compete in the South Seas Healthcare Pacific Cup in Auckland, New Zealand.
This is the first international commitment for Cricket Fiji this season with two more coming up later in the year.
The second edition of the Pacific Cup is hosted by New Zealand Cricket and would feature six participating teams in Fiji, the Cook Islands, New Zealand Maori, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Vanuatu.
“The Fiji National Sports Commission provided some funding for us for this tour to New Zealand.
“They allocated around $22,000 which covers our air fares and the processing of our visas.
“Cricket Fiji catered for the other preparation costs, uniforms, and equipment.
“While in New Zealand, the host nation will cover for accommodation and meals on game days,” Cricket Fiji chief executive Sitiveni Rokoro stated. Cricket Fiji women will play their first two matches on Wednesday.
They face Vanuatu at 9.30am then the Cook Islands at 3pm at Lloyd Elsmore Park in Auckland. Former captain Ruci Kaiwai will also be part of the tournament as an umpire, the first Fijian to do so.
She was part of the team that competed at the inaugural event last year in Vanuatu.
