Cricket Fiji to offer contracts

CRICKET Fiji will offer one-year contracts to five players starting from next month.

Cricket Fiji head coach Josefa Rika says the contract is the first in the history of Cricket Fiji.

“The five players will be contracted by Cricket Fiji on a one-year basis and then we would increase the numbers next year,” Rika said.

“The players will be given senior high-performance contracts and eight players will be given junior high-performance contracts. The players will be assessed at the end of the year.

“They will be paid to train and play cricket in a high-performance unit and it will help us to prepare our players better for international competitions,” he said.

“The players will be paid on a weekly basis by Cricket Fiji.

“We want to lock down our promising players while we want to expose the junior players to regular training sessions,” Rika said.
