Cricket Fiji is introducing several new initiatives this year to further develop the sport in Fiji.

In an interview with this newspaper, chief executive of Cricket Fiji Sitiveni Rokoro shared that the first-ever National under-19 girls’ tournament will be held this year.

The tournament will feature winners from zonal competitions in Suva, Nadi, and selected maritime schools.

“For the first time we are hoping to invite the winners of the zonal competitions,” he said.

The Super 4 women’s tournament will also take place, providing a platform for top women players from Suva and Nadi to showcase their skills.

The tournament will also serve as a selection process for Fiji’s national team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier in September.

“The four teams will be compromised of the top women’s players from the Suva and Nadi league and will also be a platform to select our national team,” he added.

In an effort to expand the reach of cricket, Cricket Fiji will include two new districts, Lautoka and Navua in the U14 boys and girls district cricket competition.

Additionally, U14 boys will participate in hard ball cricket for the first time, an exciting development for the younger players.

Internally, Cricket Fiji is conducting an organisational review to strengthen its operations.

The review aims to enhance efficiency and accountability within the organization.

The Cricket for Good, Fiji program will continue through 2026.

This program, funded by the Australian government’s Team Up initiative, focuses on using cricket to teach life skills and promote positive change.

It focuses on empowering youth and women and fostering social inclusion across Fiji.
