There is a shortage of masks for health workers at the Savusavu and Labasa hospitals.
This was revealed by Savusavu Community Foundation executive Leanne Hunter who said during the handover of food hampers in Savusavu yesterday that the foundation would assist in the provision of the personal protective equipment.
Ms Hunter said she had been in contact with their executive members overseas for the much-needed masks and other equipment.
“The lack of masks in Savusavu and Labasa hospitals has been brought to my attention,” she said.
She said their overseas counterparts had dispatched a container of masks to Fiji, including other equipment and that they had been informed that 10,000 of those were to be dispatched to the Northern Division.
“We would like to ensure that our frontliners are equipped properly, including those that work on the ground,” she added.
Roko Tui Cakaudrove Filimoni Naiqumu thanked the foundation for assisting the communities in the North, adding that community efforts were much appreciated during these times.
