The Supreme Court will decide on an appeal by former Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) MP Niko Nawaikula against former Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed- Khaiyum and FBC on June 5.
The case allegedly involves a Facebook post by Mr Nawaikula published on December 21, 2017.
It is alleged Mr Nawaikula stated in the post, amongst other things, “Admit it Riyaz. You are the problem, the Jonah in that sinking ATS ship. Resign and get out and save us all the embarrassment”.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and FBC had initially filed their claim in the High Court but lost out when Justice Brito-Mutunayagam threw away the claim in his judgment delivered on October 9, 2020.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and FBC appealed to the Court of Appeal on September 30 two years ago, hence, Mr Nawaikula’s appeal to the Supreme Court.
Both parties have been ordered to file submissions before the commencement of the appeal hearing.
