Justice Dane Tuiqereqere has reminded a man accused of murdering his wife that unless he provides new reasons for bail, he will not be let out.
Apisai Madigibuli was given the stern reminder after he filed his fourth fresh bail application at the High Court in Suva on October 22. He is accused of fatally stabbing his pregnant wife, Kitiana Baravilala, with a knife on April 25 last year.
The matter was called to check whether he had anything to raise before his trial commences in April next year.
Prosecution has been given 14 days to file a reply. In his last application, he wanted bail to properly defend his case by having access to the internet and a mobile phone for research purposes, but the State strongly objected to this.
Mr Madigibuli also sought bail so he could find work to enable him to hire a private lawyer and provide for his children.
However, the judge said Mr Madigibuli is a threat to the community and the victim’s family. He will hear the accused’s bail application on November 14.
