Court denies bail for TikToker charged with harmful online posts

Well-known Tiktoker Ana Masere has been refused bail by Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola.

Ms Masere made her first appearance before Mr Waqaivolavola at the Suva Magistrate’s Court today.

The Nadi woman has been charged by the Fiji Police Cybercrime Unit following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

She faces two counts of Causing Harm by Posting Electronic Communication under the Online Safety Act 2018, and two counts of Insulting or Annoying any Person under the Crimes Act.

The charges are related to content posted on social media platform TikTok.

Case adjourned to October.
