Former journalist Charlie Charters is free to travel to Australia this month to pursue his sports marketing work.
However, Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne warned Mr Charters of the repercussions if he does not return to Fiji on or before March 26 to face criminal charges brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Mr Somaratne issued the warning after granting Mr Charters a variation of his bail to allow him to travel.
He told Mr Charters that if he fails to return, his criminal proceedings will continue in his absence and be determined by way of trial in absentia, with his three sureties each to pay $20,000.
Mr Charters is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting the disclosure of official FICAC information under Section 13G of the FICAC Act 2007. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Joshua Francis Prasad informed the court no admission was made by the accused during his caution interview. The matter has been adjourned to March 30.
